PRISON WOOD WORKING INDUSTRY, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA AS “AUTHORIZED ENTITY” FOR THE DIRECT SALE OF FURNITURE/WOOD ITEMS TO ALL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS.

R/Sir.

I am directed to refer to the subject noted above and to state that this Inspectorate established a full-fledged state of the art Prison Wood Working Industry at Central Prison Haripur. The purpose of this initiative is to impart technical and vocational trainings to the prisoners. This will ensure the reformation of the prisoners and their post-release return to the society as a useful citizen. Additionally, this Prison Industry shall prove healthy for hysical and mental health of the prisoners. The Prison Industry is a source alping them to support themselves and also their families financially. of learning and earning for the prisoners

I am further directed to state that, the Provincial Govt. in its 18h Cabinet Meeting held on 02.12.2024 declared Prison Wood Working Industry as “Authorized Entity” for the direct sale of furniture/ wood items to all Govt. entities. This Prison Industry is preparing maximum variety of the furniture items including. furniture used in offices, schools, colleges, universities and hospitals. Prior to the above, the Provincial Govt. took initiative of approving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prison Welfare Fund Rules, 2023 for the welfare of the Prisons staff and Prisoners.

30% of the net profit from the sale proceeds of furniture/ wood items is given to the prisoners engaged in the prison industry to support their families while 60% is credited to the Prisons Welfare Fund as per Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prison Welfare Fund Rules 2023. The flourishment of Wood Working Industry shall be helpful in the nourishment of Prisons Welfare Fund resulting in a sustained arrangement for the wellbeing of the prisoners.

It is therefore, requested that in future all the furniture required for your offices, schools, colleges, universities and hospitals may be purchased from our Government Authorized Prison Wood Working Industry in the best interest of the prisoners and province.
